The evolution of the tool materials from natural stone up to steel products, hard alloys, ceramics, superhard polycrystalline and crystalline materials is described. The necessity of transition to the new type of tool materials is shown. An idea of the effective processes of their processing with abrasive tools made of superhard materials is shown through the development results of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
