Obtaining DOI for books

Obtaining DOI for books

CrossRef has been providing digital identifiers for book publications since 2006. Simplification of the mechanism of references to books, as well as the introduction into the active circulation of extensive lists of references to scientific monographs, raises the ratings of scientists and scientific institutions. For book publications, the introduction of the DOI system creates the same benefits as in the case of articles in scientific periodicals.

DOI for a book can be obtained by a publisher who has properly built own web-resource. The publisher, in the case of receiving DOIs on books, is able to use all the CrossRef services offered for periodicals and articles in them. It is also possible to provide DOI for individual parts of the book - chapters, sections, subsections, or the provision of a separate DOI to a book series, followed by obtaining them for individual serial editions.

Requirements of the CrossRef agency to the book's web-resource

1. A publisher's own web-resource must have an English-language interface.

2. The website must have:

— the publisher's homepage (visiting page);

— exit from the main page to the page of the book edition;

— book page with the following metadata (posting full text is possible, but not required):
